Discharge Process

Doctors, Admission staff ipd discharge discharge-summary

Discharge (ipd/pages/discharge.php) formally ends an inpatient admission — recording the discharge details, freeing the bed, and (in most clinics) triggering the final IPD bill. Requires the discharge_patients permission.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to IPD → Discharge, or from the patient's admission view choose Discharge.
  2. Confirm the admission being discharged (admission_id).
  3. Fill in discharge details: discharge date/time, discharge type (e.g., routine, against medical advice, transferred, deceased), and a discharge summary.
  4. Save — this finalizes the admission, marks the bed as free in Bed Management, and typically prompts final billing.

Common issues & fixes

requires the discharge_patients permission, separate from ipd_admissions.
confirm the discharge was fully saved, not left as a draft; refresh Bed Management.
a thorough summary matters for continuity of care and any downstream FHIR/record export; don't leave it blank.
