IPD: Clinical Charting

Progress Notes

Progress Notes (ipd/pages/progress_notes.php) is the doctor's daily clinical documentation for an inpatient — capturing subjective/objective findings, assessment, and plan for each day of the admission. It also includes an "Investigations Advised" section that bridges directly into the Lab module: when a doctor advises labs during a progress note, those advised tests flow through to Lab Orders instead of being buried as free text inside the note (as was previously the only option).

Step-by-step

  1. Go to IPD → Progress Notes for the admission.
  2. Write the day's clinical note — presenting status, exam findings, assessment, and plan.
  3. In Investigations Advised, add any labs you want ordered — these become structured, trackable lab orders rather than plain text.
  4. Save — the note is added to the admission's chronological record.

Common issues & fixes

confirm they were added through the structured "Investigations Advised" section, not just mentioned in free text within the note body.
progress notes are listed chronologically per admission; scroll or use any date filter provided.
