Leave Passes (Therapeutic & Emergency Leave)

Leave Passes (ipd/pages/leave_passes.php) manages temporary leave from the ward for an inpatient — either therapeutic leave (planned, clinically approved time away, e.g., a home visit as part of treatment) or emergency leave (urgent, unplanned circumstances). Requires ipd_admissions.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to Leave Passes for the admission.
  2. Create a new leave pass: type (therapeutic/emergency), reason, planned departure and return time, and any accompanying person.
  3. Get clinical approval as required by your ward's protocol before the patient leaves.
  4. Record the actual departure and return times when they occur.
  5. Document the patient's status/condition on return.

Common issues & fixes

follow your clinic's escalation protocol; this should be flagged and acted on promptly given the clinical context of inpatient psychiatric care.
therapeutic leave especially should have documented clinical approval; don't skip this step even under time pressure.
