IPD: Admissions & Beds

Ward Terminal Login & Staff PINs

Ward terminals (shared tablets/computers on the ward) use a fast PIN-based login instead of full username/password, so nursing staff can quickly switch users between patients without re-typing credentials each time. Two related pieces:

  • Ward Login (ipd/pages/ward_login.php) — handles both the initial terminal login and re-entering a PIN to unlock a locked screen.
  • Staff PINs (ipd/pages/staff_pins.php, admin-only) — where PINs are actually assigned/managed per staff member.

Setting up staff PINs (Admin)

  1. Go to IPD → Settings → Staff PINs (requires ipd_settings).
  2. Assign or reset a quick-login PIN for each nurse/staff member who uses ward terminals.

Using a ward terminal

  1. At the terminal, enter your PIN to log in (or unlock if the screen was locked).
  2. The terminal remembers which ward it's assigned to, showing a "Ward Terminal" label.
  3. Lock the screen (or let it auto-lock) between uses; re-enter your PIN to resume.

Common issues & fixes

confirm it was set up correctly in Staff PINs; ask an admin to reset it if forgotten.
the terminal's ward assignment is configured separately; contact an admin to correct it.
Staff PINs requires the ipd_settings permission, typically admin-only.
