Lab Orders & Ordering

Lab Orders (lab/pages/orders.php) lists every order in the lab's queue with rich filtering, and New Lab Order (lab/pages/order_form.php) is where a fresh order is created.

Order statuses

ordered → sample_pending → sample_collected → in_lab → partially_resulted → resulted → verified → reported (or cancelled at any point).

Filtering orders

Filter by status, free-text search, ordering doctor, and a date range — with pagination (25 per page).

Creating a new order

  1. Go to New Lab Order.
  2. If the order stems from a doctor's prescription, the form automatically pulls in prescription-advised labs — tests a clinician noted in the "Investigations Advised" section of a prescription — so those advised tests actually reach the lab instead of sitting unused in the system.
  3. Add any additional tests or panels from the catalog as needed.
  4. Set priority (e.g., routine/urgent/STAT) if offered.
  5. Submit — the order enters the queue at status ordered.

Common issues & fixes

confirm it was recorded through the structured "Investigations Advised" section of the prescription, not just mentioned as free text.
check the status filter isn't excluding it, and widen the date range.
it's waiting on sample collection; see Sample Collection & Receiving.
