Pending Lab Advisories (Working the Prescription→Lab Bridge)

Two related pages let lab staff work through tests doctors have advised on prescriptions, without needing to already know which patient or prescription to look at:

  • Pending Lab Advisories (lab/pages/pending_advised.php) — a clinic-wide worklist of every test any doctor has advised (via the "Investigations Advised" section of a prescription) that hasn't yet been converted into an actual lab order, across all patients.
  • Prescription-Advised Investigations → Order (lab/pages/prescription_orders.php) — groups those advised tests by patient/prescription and lets staff act on them.

Previously, once a doctor advised a lab test, the only place it was ever visible again was the printed prescription PDF — nothing surfaced it to lab staff. These pages close that gap.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to Pending Lab Advisories (or Prescription Orders) to see everything currently advised but not yet ordered.
  2. For a given prescription, review which advised tests are already matched to a catalog entry and which aren't.
  3. Select any subset of the advised tests — a patient may only want some of what was advised.
  4. Optionally add extra tests/panels from the live catalog picker, beyond what was advised.
  5. Click to create the order from your selection in one step.
  6. If a patient declines a specific advised test, mark that line "Patient declined" (cancelled) without creating an order for it.

Common issues & fixes

confirm the doctor used the structured "Investigations Advised" section on the prescription/progress note, not free text.
the catalog may need a corresponding test added (see Test Catalog & Panels) before it can be ordered.
always double check the subset selected before submitting; declined items should be marked declined rather than silently dropped.
